Oral cancer is a serious condition that can be fatal if left untreated. Given the rise in rates of all forms of cancer – particularly mouth cancer – early detection has never been more important in improving chances of recovery.
As such, we carry out an oral cancer screen on all our patients as part of their routine dental examination. This starts with taking a detailed medical and social history to identify any potential risk factors, as well as a thorough visual inspection of the mouth and oropharynx.
Even if you are not aware of having a dental problem, it is still important to regularly attend for your routine check-up to ensure that any symptoms of oral cancer do not go unchecked – if detected early, the chances of recovery are good.
